Which edition? Microsoft describes Standard as ideal for physical or minimally virtualized environments, Datacenter as ideal for highly virtualized datacenters and cloud environments, and Essentials as a cloud-connected first server designed for small businesses. Which version? Choose the one your applications support. Microsoft’s extended support ends in 2034 for Windows Server 2025, 2031 for 2022, 2029 for 2019 and on January 12, 2027 for 2016.
